KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has passed a condolence motion expressing deep sorrow over the demise of senior journalist and former minister Homanath Dahal.

Dahal passed away on Friday evening in Kathmandu at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.
Acting President of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, said that Dahal played a leading role in strengthening the party organization and advancing Nepal’s democratic movement while holding various responsibilities within the party.
Dahal was elected to the House of Representatives from Okhaldhunga Constituency No. 1 in the 2056 BS general election representing the Nepali Congress.
He later served as Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives.
According to the condolence proposal unanimously endorsed by the Central Committee, the party will lower its flags to half-mast at central, provincial, and district offices on Poush 26, 27, and 28, and all party offices will remain closed on Poush 27.

The party will also keep condolence books at all levels of its offices for 13 days following his demise, and a memorial meeting (condolence meeting) will be organized in Okhaldhunga on the 13th day.
Family sources said that Dahal’s mortal remains will be kept for tribute at his private residence in Maitidevi, Kathmandu, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am on Saturday, followed by last rites at Pashupati Aryaghat at 9:30 am with state honors.
Dahal is survived by his wife Sudha Dahal, who is currently undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, and his two sons, Dr. Sudhanshu Dahal and Himanshu Dahal.
Born in the then Baruneshwar Village Panchayat of Okhaldhunga, Dahal was a prominent figure in Nepal’s democratic movement. He was a former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and served as editor of the Nepali Congress mouthpiece “Rastra Pukar” weekly. He also held key positions including District Member of Nepali Congress Okhaldhunga and Central Member of the then Nepali Congress (Democratic).
The demise of Homanath Dahal marks the loss of a veteran politician, journalist, and steadfast advocate of democracy in Nepal.
