NC Special Convention: Presidential nomination fee set at Rs 30,000
A total of 121 central members, along with 13 office-bearers, will be elected.
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has formally initiated the election process to select its new leadership during the ongoing special central convention, with voting set for the 134-member Central Working Committee.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief of the Election Committee, Sitaram KC, confirmed that the elections will be conducted according to the party’s existing constitution.
A total of 121 central members, along with 13 office-bearers, will be elected.
The election will also select two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, and eight deputy general secretaries. Of the central members, 35 will be elected through the open category.
The Election Committee has already published the election schedule, covering all procedures from voter list publication to nomination submission.
According to the schedule, the first voter list was published at 12:30 PM, with claims and objections to be reviewed between 12:30 and 1:30 PM.
The final voter list will be released at 2 PM, followed by the nomination submission window from 2 to 3 PM.
After the initial nominations are scrutinized, candidates will be given time to withdraw if they choose.
The final candidate list will be published after evening scrutiny, with all claims and objections addressed by 7 PM.
The final list of candidates is scheduled for release at 8:45 PM.
The nomination fees have been set at Rs 30,000 for the presidential post, Rs 25,000 for vice-presidents and general secretaries, and Rs 10,000 for central member candidates, Sitaram KC said.
The special convention marks a crucial step for the party in electing its new leadership and setting its future course.
