NC postpones Janakpur ‘Madhesh Assembly’
However, the event has been affected by the enforcement of the election code for the House of Representatives election.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has postponed its planned “Madhesh Assembly” in Janakpur, originally scheduled for Magh 16, citing the Election Commission’s code of conduct.
According to the earlier schedule, top leaders, including Gagan Thapa, were set to visit the Madhes region on Magh 11 and hold the large-scale Janakpur assembly as a show of strength on Magh 16.
However, the event has been affected by the enforcement of the election code for the House of Representatives election.
Under the Election Commission’s rules, candidates are prohibited from holding any rallies, assemblies, or formal campaigns before Falgun 4.
Since nominations for the House of Representatives closed on Magh 6, the code of conduct came into effect the day before, prompting Congress to reschedule its program.
Gagan Thapa, a candidate from Sarlahi-4, was expected to participate in the assembly.
Large gatherings involving candidates are considered a violation of the code, leading the party to strategically adjust its plans.
