NC delays meeting amid intense inter-party talks
The meeting, originally slated for 11:00 am on Tuesday, has been pushed back by two hours and will now convene at 1:00 pm.
KATHMANDU: As political maneuvering intensifies on the eve of the National Assembly election, the Nepali Congress (NC) has rescheduled its Central Working Committee meeting.
The meeting, originally slated for 11:00 am on Tuesday, has been pushed back by two hours and will now convene at 1:00 pm.
Issuing an official notice, NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel said the schedule was changed due to “special reasons.”
The meeting has been called to finalize candidate selection and election strategy for the National Assembly polls scheduled for Magh 11.
According to party sources, discussions will mainly focus on forging electoral alliances and finalizing candidates, amid growing indications of an informal understanding among the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Maoist Centre on possible joint candidates or seat-sharing arrangements.
During Monday’s meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka briefed committee members on ongoing inter-party negotiations.
Shortly after the meeting, Khadka, along with NC leader Ramesh Lekhak, held talks with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli at Gundhu in Bhaktapur.
The rescheduling of Tuesday’s meeting is widely seen as a result of these intense negotiations and efforts to reach a broader political consensus ahead of the election.
