KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament Secretariat is preparing to conduct the National Assembly’s upcoming winter session in the restored hall of the former National Assembly, which previously served as the Agriculture Committee hall of the now-dissolved House of Representatives.

The hall hosted National Assembly meetings from 2048 BS (after the 2046 BS multi-party system was established) until 2058 BS.

Following the declaration of the republic, the Secretariat began using the International Convention Centre in New Baneshwor for federal parliamentary sessions after the 2074 BS general elections, including National Assembly meetings.

However, the winter session could not be held there after the convention centre was set on fire during the Gen Z movement on Bhadra 24.

Currently, repair work is underway in the old hall to accommodate the National Assembly Chairperson, members, parliamentary staff, journalists, as well as tables and chairs.

Once restoration is complete, the National Assembly is set to convene its winter session in the first week of Magh.
