KATHMANDU: Napoli booked their place in the Italian Super Cup final after defeating AC Milan 2–0, with goals from David Neres and Rasmus Højlund.

Napoli scored once in each half to seal a convincing victory and will now face the winner of Friday’s second semifinal between Bologna and Inter Milan.

The Super Cup final is scheduled for Dec 22.

Napoli started brightly and nearly took an early lead when Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan failed to deal with Matteo Politano’s corner.

Eljif Elmas attempted to capitalize on the rebound, but his effort was unsuccessful.

The Naples side maintained constant pressure throughout the first half. Scott McTominay fired a long-range shot narrowly wide, while AC Milan’s Adrien Rabiot headed over the crossbar from a promising position.

Napoli broke the deadlock six minutes before halftime. Højlund delivered a cross that Maignan failed to fully control, allowing Neres to tap in from close range inside the six-yard box.

During first-half stoppage time, Napoli almost doubled their advantage on the counterattack.

Højlund aimed for the near post, but Maignan produced an excellent save to keep Milan in contention.

Napoli continued their attacking approach after the break. Amir Rrahmani’s powerful long-range effort was once again denied by Maignan, who put in a strong goalkeeping performance despite the defeat.

However, Napoli eventually doubled their lead in the 63rd minute.

Højlund beat Koni De Winter with ease before finishing clinically to make it 2–0. The Danish striker later had another chance, but his shot went narrowly wide.

With three minutes remaining, McTominay had a golden opportunity to add a third, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

Napoli comfortably saw out the match to secure their place in the final, keeping alive their hopes of lifting the Italian Super Cup.
