KATHMANDU: Nabil Bank Limited has launched the “Nabil Clean Drinking Water Campaign” on the occasion of World Water Day, aiming to provide safe and purified drinking water to schoolchildren across Nepal.

The campaign was inaugurated digitally on Sunday by Nirvana Chaudhary, Chair of Nabil Bank, covering 123 schools nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, Chaudhary highlighted that the initiative ensures a healthy and safe learning environment for students by providing access to clean drinking water.

“Through this campaign, we have already reached over 100,000 students across 123 schools,” Chaudhary said. “We are proud to implement this project and plan to expand its reach and impact further in the coming days.”

The campaign, part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, focuses on improving student health, promoting hygiene, and ensuring sustainable access to safe drinking water.

It targets both government and community schools, aiming to equip them with reliable water purification facilities.

The initiative spans all seven provinces of Nepal. According to the bank, the campaign has so far benefited:

  • Koshi Province: 8 schools
  • Madhesh Province: 16 schools
  • Bagmati Province: 9 schools
  • Gandaki Province: 10 schools
  • Lumbini Province: 36 schools
  • Karnali Province: 15 schools
  • Sudurpashchim Province: 29 schools

The project receives technical support from Smart Water to ensure effective water purification systems.

Access to safe drinking water remains a major challenge in Nepalese schools. Government data shows that while 98% of schools have some form of drinking water, nearly 68% lack proper purification systems, putting children at risk of waterborne illnesses due to contaminants like arsenic, iron, and harmful pathogens from unmanaged water flow, agricultural runoff, and domestic sewage.

Nabil Bank has emphasized school sanitation and hygiene as key priorities in addressing these challenges.

The bank’s CSR initiatives aim to create positive social impact by promoting health, education, and sustainable development across Nepal.

As one of Nepal’s leading commercial banks, Nabil Bank continues to integrate social entrepreneurship, community development, and employment generation into its core strategy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth and societal well-being.
