KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Ammar Bahadur Thapa tore a copy of the national budget book in Parliament on Thursday, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the government’s fiscal policies for the upcoming year.

Speaking at the House of Representatives, Thapa criticized the budget for failing to address the needs of the people, particularly those living in remote and underdeveloped areas like Dailekh.

He accused the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of overlooking backward regions in its allocations.

“This budget doesn’t serve the people—it reflects unequal distribution,” Thapa said. “State resources and planning are concentrated in urban centers, leaving rural communities behind.”

Before tearing the budget book, Thapa claimed he had sought permission from the Speaker. “The revenue collected from the people must serve the people. Since this budget fails to do that, I did not like it. I asked for approval and tore it in protest,” he added.
