KATHMANDU: Amar Bahadur Thapa, a member of parliament from the CPN (Unified Socialist), has raised concerns over the status of anti-corruption legislation.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, MP Thapa questioned the whereabouts and progress of the anti-corruption bills.

He called on the government to inform the parliament about the current status of the bills, emphasizing that laws aimed at controlling corruption should not be hidden or delayed. “Where is the Anti-Corruption (Third Amendment) Bill, passed unanimously by the National Assembly, and how is it progressing? Is the government hiding these laws, or will they move forward? The House needs immediate clarity on this,” he said.

The National Assembly had unanimously passed the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Amendment Bill, 2079, and the Anti-Corruption (First Amendment) Bill, 2079.

However, MPs have repeatedly questioned the government for allegedly shelving these important bills.
