KATHMANDU: Continuous monsoon rains have triggered severe floods and landslides across Nepal, causing major disruptions to the country’s road network.

As of 8 a.m. today, five major road sections are completely blocked, while four others are partially open for one-way traffic.

With Dashain approaching, these disruptions are creating significant challenges for both passenger travel and cargo transport.

In Koshi Province, sections of the Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha—specifically Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4, Barun, and Makalu Rural Municipality-3 in Ekuwa—are entirely blocked due to incessant rainfall.

Similarly, in Bagmati Province, conditions remain critical. The bridge connecting Nepal and China in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2, Rasuwa, has been rendered impassable by floodwaters.

Chitwan’s Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-5, Tuin Khola, has also been hit by landslides, completely blocking the Narayangadh-Muglin road—a vital artery connecting the capital to western Nepal.

In Lumbini Province, the Mid-Hill Highway section in Rukum East’s Bhume Rural Municipality-4, Kandabagar, is fully blocked due to landslides.

Partial one-way traffic continues in several locations, including Rasuwa’s Uttar Gaya Rural Municipality-5, Nuwakot’s Naubise, and Ichchhakamana-5, as well as the Garchi-Trishuli-Mailung road section.

In Gandaki Province, landslides in Kolarkhola, Baglung Municipality-13, have restricted the Kaligandaki Corridor to one-way traffic.

In Nawalparasi East, sections of the East-West Highway in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 and 3, including Bishwakarma Mandir and Painsemode, have been reduced to one-way traffic due to relentless rainfall.

The monsoon has inflicted the greatest damage in hilly regions, repeatedly blocking major highways.

Road authorities and security agencies are working tirelessly to clear the roads, but ongoing rains are hampering rescue and restoration efforts.

Travelers are advised to use alternative routes and check road conditions before embarking on journeys.
