KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has rolled out a comprehensive set of 21 directives aimed at District Administration Offices (DAOs) across all 77 districts in Nepal.

Under the directive, Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has emphasized the pivotal role of DAOs in actively engaging in peacekeeping efforts, maintaining security, ensuring efficient service delivery, promoting good governance, and facilitating coordination and regulation.

Sources within the Home Ministry have revealed that the primary focus of these directives is to empower DAOs in upholding peace and cracking down on criminal activities within their respective districts.

DAOs have been tasked with formulating and executing a three-month short-term action plan to completely eradicate illegal activities from their areas.

Furthermore, the Ministry has instructed DAOs to identify high-crime zones, bolster security surveillance, conduct regular emergency checks and patrols, and intensify monitoring activities.

In addition, measures are being put in place to regulate the ethical use of social media and combat cybercrime effectively.

To enforce these directives, the Ministry has mandated the allocation of dedicated personnel from the District Police Office and DAO to monitor and penalize individuals found spreading vulgar, baseless, or divisive content on social media platforms.

Moreover, DAOs have been directed to spearhead initiatives to curb economic crimes, enhance road safety to minimize accidents, improve office management practices, leverage information technology for better service delivery, and streamline complaint management processes while ensuring the implementation of the right to information.
