Minister Gurung urges opposition to end House obstruction
He urged the opposition to allow the parliamentary investigation committee to function independently and use the process as a means of accountability to prevent similar issues in the future.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has called on opposition parties obstructing Parliament to abandon their rigid stance and actively participate in parliamentary proceedings.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday at Singha Durbar after announcing Cabinet decisions, Minister Gurung expressed concern over the continued obstruction by opposition parties, particularly the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
He stated that while the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Centre), continues to respect the parliamentary process, the actions of RSP and RPP resemble a “my way or no way” attitude.
Gurung labeled their stance as “completely wrong” and said that avoiding dialogue and disrupting Parliament only stalls national progress.
He urged the opposition to allow the parliamentary investigation committee to function independently and use the process as a means of accountability to prevent similar issues in the future.
The government has recently formed a high-level investigation committee led by former Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, including joint secretaries from various ministries. The seven-member committee aims to address long-standing issues related to immigration and visit visas — a move opposed by RSP and RPP.
Minister Gurung stated that continued opposition to the committee is no longer justifiable, and he appealed for cooperation to move parliamentary affairs forward.
