He stressed that safe and dignified migration is a shared commitment and called on all partner nations to cooperate in implementing safe, orderly, and regular migration practices.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharatsingh Bhandari, has emphasized the need to transform youths returning to Nepal after gaining skills abroad into leaders of national development.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the Asia–Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dialogue on safe, dignified, and well-managed migration held on Wednesday, Minister Bhandari proposed the establishment of a joint reintegration fund with GCC nations to effectively utilize the skills of returnee workers in national development.
He stressed that safe and dignified migration is a shared commitment and called on all partner nations to cooperate in implementing safe, orderly, and regular migration practices.
Expressing gratitude to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other participating representatives, Bhandari said the dialogue serves as a vital platform to advance a common vision of migration rooted in human dignity and human rights.
Highlighting Nepal’s perspective as a labour-sending country, he underscored the importance of such dialogues in strengthening mutual understanding between labour-sending and labour-receiving nations.
Minister Bhandari also urged all nations to implement the 23 objectives of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), ensuring basic human rights for all migrants.
Acknowledging the contributions of hundreds of thousands of Nepali migrant workers to the prosperity of GCC countries, he called for a shift in mindset to view migrants not just as labourers but as partners in development.
