Mayor Sampang announces candidacy for Sunsari-1
Sampang, who won the mayoral post as an independent, recently registered his own party, the Shram Sanskriti Party.
KATHMANDU: Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harkraj Rai (Sampang) has announced his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Sunsari-1.
Taking to Facebook, Rai stated, “I will contest the elections from Sunsari-1! Hail the soil! Hail the nation!”
Sampang, who won the mayoral post as an independent, recently registered his own party, the Shram Sanskriti Party.
Sunsari-1 includes all 20 wards of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, wards 1 to 5 of Barahakshetra Municipality, and wards 6 and 7 of Ramdhuni Municipality.
Traditionally considered a stronghold of the UML, the constituency was won by Ashok Rai of the Janata Samajwadi Party in the 2022 elections.
Sampang’s announcement adds new excitement to the Sunsari-1 race, as he is popular in Dharan for addressing water supply issues and leading labor initiatives.
