KATHMANDU: Members of Madhesi martyrs’ families have announced plans to protest, accusing the government of neglecting their community.

While the Madhesh government has traditionally observed Martyrs’ Day on Magh 5 each year, no preparations have been made this year, and relief packages meant for the families remain stalled, the members claimed.

At a press conference, representatives of the Madhesi Martyrs’ Organization warned that they would launch a movement if the government failed to address their demands by Saturday.

Shubham Yadav, a member of the organization, alleged that officials are attempting to insult martyrs’ families and even planning to shut down the Madhesi Martyrs’ Organization. He also highlighted that, despite working at the organization for 7–8 months, employees have not received salaries.

Yadav further accused authorities of pressuring staff to vacate the office after the Chief Minister’s office was shifted to the Ministry of Home, Communications, and Law, without making proper arrangements.

He added that although the organization’s act was drafted months ago, the government has yet to get cabinet approval or submit it to the provincial assembly.
