Maoist-Centre MP alleges govt. using state machinery to spread ‘state terror’

KATHMANDU: Maoist-Centre lawmaker Suresh Kumar Alemgar has accused the government of attempting to seize control of all state mechanisms to spread what he called “state terror.”
Speaking at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Alemgar claimed that the government is trying to dominate institutions ranging from constitutional bodies to the judiciary.
He criticized a Supreme Court decision regarding the appointment of constitutional officials, saying even the Chief Justice ended up in the minority, which, he argued, mocked the judicial process.
He also opposed a legal draft granting men the right to practice polygamy, calling it unacceptable.
Alemgar further expressed concern over alleged efforts to impeach the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, warning that such actions would be highly ironic.
He urged the government to immediately halt any activities that he said were aimed at spreading state terror.
“It appears that the two-thirds government is trying to take control of all state mechanisms to instill state terror. Recently, in a case concerning appointments to constitutional bodies, even the Honorable Chief Justice ended up in the minority, creating a mockery of the judiciary. Similarly, the draft law on men’s right to practice polygamy has surfaced, which we all opposed. We have also heard of attempts to impeach the Deputy Speaker. If that happens, it will be a great irony. We call on the government to immediately stop these acts of state terror,” Alemgar said.
