Manisha Upadhyaya’s spin blitz puts Nepal in command vs Scotland (photos)
Scotland, sent in to bat at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, were all out for 140 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
KATHMANDU: Debutant left-arm spinner Manisha Upadhyaya delivered a sensational bowling performance to put Nepal in a strong position against Scotland in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, giving her team a target of 141 runs to chase.
After winning the toss, Nepal opted to field. Scotland, sent in to bat at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, were all out for 140 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Manisha made an explosive start, dismissing Kathryn Fraser bowled on just the second ball of the innings, providing Nepal with a dream opening breakthrough.
She then sent back fellow opener Darcy Carter for just 1 run, and later removed Kathryn Bryce for 8 runs in her second over. In her final over, Manisha trapped Alisa Lister for 22 runs, finishing with 4 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs.
All-rounder Ruwina K.C. supported strongly, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs, including back-to-back dismissals in the last two balls of her spell.
Additional contributions came from Sita Ranamagar (1/18 in 4 overs), Kavita Joshi (1/17 in 2 overs), and Riya Sharma (1/41 in 4 overs).
Scotland’s top scorer was Priyanj Chatterjee, who remained unbeaten on 45 off 28 balls, hitting 7 boundaries, while Lister scored 22 runs off 24 balls with 4 fours.
Megan MacColl added 17 runs from 14 balls.
Nepal now needs a win to secure a spot in the Super Six stage, with Scotland on 4 points from 3 games and Nepal on 2 points from 2 games.
The Netherlands have already qualified for the Super Six, winning all 3 of their matches, and will face Thailand later today in the group stage.
