KATHMANDU: Defending English Premier League champions, Manchester City, were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Brighton on Saturday after failing to maintain a two-goal lead.

City took the lead early as Erling Haaland converted a penalty in the 11th minute. However, Brighton responded just 10 minutes later when Pervis Estupiñán scored to level the score.

In the 39th minute, City regained the lead through Omar Marmoush, and the first half ended with City leading 2-1.

But Brighton capitalized on an unfortunate own goal by City’s Houshnoff in the 48th minute of the second half, bringing the visitors back into the game.

Following this draw, City now sits in 5th place with 48 points from 29 matches, while Brighton occupies 7th place with 47 points from the same number of games. Liverpool leads the league with 70 points from 29 matches.
