KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has issued a public clarification following controversy over her remarks made during the party’s general convention, saying her comments were misunderstood and taken out of context.

Taking to social media, Tamang explained that she is new to politics and was not fully aware of the party’s internal election procedures. She said she initially assumed the party’s convention voting system was similar to a national general election.

“I thought it was like the election on Fagun 21, similar to the Election Commission system. I didn’t know that a party has its own internal election body. Do I deserve a media trial for that?” she wrote.

Emphasizing her recent entry into politics, Tamang said she is still in a learning phase and gaining experience. “It has not even been two months since I entered politics. Neither my father nor mother were politicians. I am learning and understanding step by step,” she added.

She further noted that the convention gave her an important realization about ordinary citizens in politics. “What I understood is that in every situation, it is the common people who end up suffering,” she stated.
