KATHMANDU: Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Burnley, while the visitors’ defeat confirmed their relegation.

For the first time since August, City sit at the summit, edging ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, with both sides level on 70 points from 33 matches.

Star striker Erling Haaland proved decisive once again, scoring the only goal just five minutes into the match.

He calmly converted after receiving a precise assist from Jérémy Doku, continuing his crucial role in City’s title charge.

Haaland had also netted the winner in City’s previous victory over Arsenal.

Despite the early setback, Burnley showed resilience, with goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka producing several outstanding saves to keep the scoreline narrow.

He denied efforts from Rayan Cherki and Nico O’Reilly, preventing City from extending their lead.

City continued to press in the second half, coming close on multiple occasions. Haaland struck the post, while O’Reilly missed a clear opportunity from close range.

The defeat leaves Burnley 13 points behind 17th-placed West Ham United with just four matches remaining, sealing their immediate return to the Championship.

In Wednesday’s other fixture, Bournemouth and Leeds United played out an entertaining 2–2 draw.
