KATHMANDU: The police have launched an investigation with six cases against a man who, claiming to be the head of an extremist group or “Nepal IGN,” threatened to kill 10 people, including the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), using his personal email ID.

According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for Kathmandu District Police Office, the suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Prakash Pathak, originally from Temal Rural Municipality-1, Kavrepalanchowk, who is currently residing in the Philippines.

He was apprehended through Interpol and brought back to Nepal.

Bhattarai stated that Pathak was presented before the Kathmandu District Court today, where the court granted an additional three days for investigation.

The police have registered six cases against him, including charges related to public offenses, fraud, unlawful acquisition of criminal benefits, and conspiracy to commit crimes.

According to police, on Oct 22, 2025, Pathak used his email ID to threaten the Chief Commissioner of the CIAA and nine others with murder.

Following this, he was placed on the police wanted list.

Coordinating with Interpol in the Philippines, the Nepal Police successfully brought him back to Nepal for further legal action.
