KATHMANDU: Nepalese authorities have extradited Prakash Pathak from the Philippines for allegedly threatening the lives of several high-ranking officials.

According to SSP Ramesh Thapa of Kathmandu District Police, Pathak was brought to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Wednesday. A Nepal Police team had traveled to the Philippines to secure his arrest. The operation was carried out jointly by the Kathmandu District Police and INTERPOL.

Pathak had reportedly issued ultimatums, threatening to kill ten senior officials, including Prem Rai, Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), and had also allegedly plotted attacks using inmates who escaped from jail on Sept 9.

Investigations traced Pathak to the Philippines following his threats. On Dec 31, the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit in Malolos City, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police, arrested him.

A Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Pathak, and INTERPOL had released a diffusion notice on Dec 12.
