Mahabir Pun moves into Ministry after housing crisis
His move comes after ministerial residences at Bhaisepati were damaged during the Gen Z protests, leaving the government unable to provide formal accommodation for ministers.
KATHMANDU: Mahabir Pun has taken an unusual step by moving his residence into the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, turning his office space into a temporary home amid a shortage of official housing for cabinet members.
The newly appointed minister shifted into the ministry premises at Singha Durbar on Tuesday morning, arriving with a few personal belongings including four to five bags and a carton.
His move comes after ministerial residences at Bhaisepati were damaged during the Gen Z protests, leaving the government unable to provide formal accommodation for ministers.
As a result, ministers in Kathmandu have either returned to their private homes or arranged temporary rentals, while those from outside the capital face accommodation challenges.
Pun had earlier indicated after assuming office that he would sleep at the ministry if no official housing was provided.
He followed through on that statement shortly after taking charge.
Speaking to journalists during the move, he reflected on the uncertainty of life and his modest possessions, saying that his belongings were limited and that he had previously lived at the National Innovation Centre.
