KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal appeared before the Special Court to record his statement in the corruption case involving the alleged misuse of government land at Patanjali Yogpeeth.

Following a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Nepal voluntarily appeared at the court, signaling his readiness to face the charges and denying any intent to evade the investigation.

He had previously submitted a request to be allowed to appear in court, and accordingly, the hearing was scheduled for today.

Immediately after his statement is recorded, the court will begin the bail hearing to decide whether Nepal will remain in custody or be released on bail during the trial.

A senior legal team representing Nepal is prepared to argue for his release on simple bail grounds, citing his former prime ministerial status, advanced age, and low flight risk, as well as the absence of evidence tampering concerns.

Conversely, the government prosecutor will emphasize the seriousness of the allegations, arguing that Nepal abused his official position to facilitate corruption under the guise of policy and urging the court to keep him in custody to ensure a fair investigation and trial.
