Leaders inspect construction site of Dodhara Chandani Dry Port

KATHMANDU: Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of the CPN-UML, and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari inspected the construction site of the Dodhara Chandani Dry Port in Kanchanpur today.

Considered a key trade hub for western Nepal, the dry port is being developed with Indian investment.

COMT Construction Pvt. Ltd., the company responsible for the project, has already begun site clearance work.

Minister Bhandari stated that the dry port’s foundation stone will be jointly laid by the Prime Ministers of Nepal and India during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to India.

The project is planned to be completed within three years. As part of the site preparation, 1,705 trees have been cleared to make way for construction activities.

According to Aashish Gajurel, Executive Director of the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, the site inspection was conducted ahead of the foundation-laying ceremony at the prime ministerial level.

In the first phase, 25 hectares will be developed to include warehouses, customs inspection facilities, quarantine, immigration, and security arrangements.

Environmental impact assessments and preliminary study reports for the project have already been approved.
