Laxman Poudel elected Chair of ECAN

KATHMANDU: Laxman Poudel (Andrew) has been elected as the new chair of the Educational Consultancy Association of Nepal (ECAN), the umbrella organization of educational consultancy businesses in the country.

The election was held during ECAN’s 20th Annual General Meeting in Kathmandu, where a new leadership team was chosen for a two-year term.

Poudel secured victory after a closely contested race, defeating his nearest rival, Deepak Raj Bhusal.

Although Poudel contested the election with a full panel, the final results reflected a mixed outcome within the executive committee.

While most office bearers from Poudel’s group emerged victorious, the position of General Secretary was won by Bhavanath Humagain from Bhusal’s camp.

According to the official results, Basudev Dahal, Bikalpa Raj Pokhrel, and Geeta Shivakoti were elected as Vice Chairs.

Among them, Dahal and Siwakoti represented Poudel’s panel, while Pokhrel was from Bhusal’s group. Suraj Silwal and Aashik Karki were elected as Secretaries.

Sadhana Pudasaini from Poudel’s panel was elected Treasurer, while Govinda Khanal secured the position of Joint Treasurer.

The newly elected executive committee members include Anant Raj Ghimire, Uddhav Ban, Bibek Basnet, Damodar Sharma, Ashok Kumar Hathi, Dinesh Poudel, Sanjeev Pandey, Shiva Prasad Aryal, and Kamal Prasad Timilsina.

Speaking after his victory, Chair-elect Poudel pledged to prioritize the professional rights of educational consultancy businesses and work towards enhancing the credibility and dignity of the sector.

He emphasized that his tenure would focus on strengthening ECAN’s institutional capacity and promoting ethical and transparent practices within the industry.
