Landslide halts Siddhartha Highway; MP seeks quick action
Speaking during the zero-hour session in the House of Representatives today, MP Gaire highlighted that the road closure has severely impacted the movement of passengers as well as freight vehicles.
KATHMANDU: Thakur Gaire, a Member of Parliament from the CPN-UML, has reported that a major landslide on the Siddhartha Highway, specifically in the Siddhababa section, has caused a traffic blockage for more than 20 hours.
Speaking during the zero-hour session in the House of Representatives today, MP Gaire highlighted that the road closure has severely impacted the movement of passengers as well as freight vehicles.
He added that travelers are stranded on the route, and despite efforts by the security personnel and local authorities, including Tinau Rural Municipality, to operate an alternative route, these attempts have so far been unsuccessful.
MP Gaire further informed the parliament that in addition to the Siddhababa landslide, road collapses in Juthapaiva of West Palpa have disrupted local life.
Rural roads including the Aryabhanjyang-Ramdi section under the Siddhartha Highway have also been blocked by landslides.
He emphasized that students are unable to attend schools and local residents face severe difficulties in daily commuting.
Citizens traveling to Parbat and Arghakhanchi via the Siddhartha Highway are experiencing major hardships.
MP Gaire urged the government to immediately clear the obstructions on the Siddhartha Highway and requested that small vehicles be allowed to pass through the Siddhababa tunnel route as a temporary measure.
