Lamichhane urges builders to focus on development, not press statements

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has called on construction entrepreneurs to concentrate on development projects rather than issuing press statements.
Addressing a party event in Itahari on Tuesday, Lamichhane said some groups appeared unsettled whenever the party voiced its stance, but the country is now moving forward on the path of development.
He urged builders to prepare for round-the-clock work in two to three shifts and, if necessary, invest in new equipment to accelerate projects.
“When RSP raises its concerns, some people get anxious. I want to tell construction entrepreneurs: don’t waste time issuing statements. Focus on acquiring heavy machinery and advancing development. The country is now on the path of construction progress,” Lamichhane said.
He also clarified that law enforcement, not threats or coercion, will ensure work compliance. His statement came after senior RSP leader Balendra Sah suggested that non-cooperative builders be tied to trees to enforce work—a comment that drew criticism from the Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs’ Federation.
Lamichhane encouraged builders to invest in equipment without worrying about security issues, emphasizing that the law will regulate construction practices.
Targeting Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, Lamichhane remarked, “After twenty years in parliament and ministerial positions, you suddenly claim knowledge about changing laws for road construction. Keep that knowledge to yourself.”
