‘Kumari’ trailer unveiled to massive crowd, making history

KATHMANDU: The trailer of the year’s most awaited Nepali romantic drama, ‘Kumari’, set to release on Magh 23 (Feb 6), was unveiled in a grand public event at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
The occasion drew an estimated 10,000 spectators, making it a historic moment in the annals of Nepali cinema for a trailer launch.

Director Dinesh Raut expressed that unveiling the trailer in front of thousands under the open sky fulfilled a long-cherished dream.
He also expressed confidence that the energy and excitement of the audience would carry over to cinema halls.
Producer Mahendra Adhikari stated that the overwhelming love and support from the audience has strengthened his commitment to staying active in the Nepali film industry.

The trailer launch event featured a special musical performance by Kehar Singh Limbu and his band ‘Kehar & The Lunga’, along with popular bands ‘Istris’ and ‘Trija Pradhan & The Tukucha’, who enthralled the crowd with live performances. The combination of a live concert and film promotion added a unique and engaging dimension to the event.
Debut actors Abhishek Khadka and Aakriti Rajbhandari, who play the lead roles, shared their excitement over meeting thousands of fans in person, describing the audience’s response as deeply moving. The cheers and applause left the actors visibly emotional.
The trailer offers a glimpse of a sensitive and thrilling love story, highlighting romance, family dynamics, and psychological conflicts. It portrays the depth of emotions in the lives of the lead characters, exploring love, struggle, and life’s emotional turns.

The male protagonist, played by Abhishek Khadka, is shown as a sensitive, short-tempered, and pressured young man, whose silent expressions, eye movements, and subtle acting convey the helplessness in love. While fully devoted to his romantic relationship, the trailer hints at his ongoing struggles with society and circumstances.
The female lead, played by Aakriti Rajbhandari, is portrayed as more than just a love interest—she embodies self-respect, silent rebellion, and emotional courage. Her eyes reflect fear, her silence conceals pain, and her tough decisions showcase strength.
The trailer conveys that ‘Kumari’ is a story to be felt, not just watched.

Edited by Shahil Khan, the trailer has already reached YouTube trending status. Present at the event were Aryan Sigdel of Love Story and actress Thinle Lhamo from Shambala, who extended their best wishes to the lead actors.
Director Dinesh Raut, who began his career with I Am Sorry and is known for successful romantic films like November Rain and Classic, has returned to the romance genre after directing socially-centered films such as Prasad, Prakash, and Pujar Sarki, in response to audience demand.
Produced under Vinish Entertainment by Mahendra Adhikari and written by Bikash Subedi, Kumari features Abhishek Khadka, Aakriti Rajbhandari, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sunita Shrestha, Akanksha Karki, Madhu Khadka, Sanam Shrestha, Saku Shah, Saroj Lamichhane, and Mansha Sharma, among others.
Cinematography is by Sushan Prajapati, editing and color grading by Suprim Parajuli, and sound design by Uttam Neupane.
Prior releases of songs such as Doko Bunne, Kata Chhau Mero Phool, and Timi Bina have already generated widespread buzz, raising expectations for Kumari’s trailer.
During the launch event, fans celebrated the milestone of Doko Bunne achieving over 5 million views on YouTube with a cake-cutting ceremony.
All songs feature vocals by Kesar Singh Limbu, with music composed by Suman Tamang and lyrics by Sagar Lamichhane Magar and Suman Tamang.
Now, the audience eagerly awaits Magh 23, when Kumari will hit theaters, promising an emotional, romantic, and deeply engaging cinematic experience.
