KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmakers in the Koshi Province Assembly staged a protest on Wednesday, accusing the provincial government of passing the annual policy and program without allowing adequate time for amendments.
During the session, opposition members objected to what they described as procedural irregularities and stormed the rostrum, chanting slogans and disrupting proceedings.
The situation escalated when former Chief Minister Rajendra Rai attempted to grab the rostrum microphone, prompting security personnel to intervene.
Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista maintained that the policy and program was advanced after no amendment proposals were submitted within the stipulated time.
He added that while the document was passed without consensus, the concerns and dissent of the opposition were duly recorded.
Amid continuous obstruction, Speaker Bista adjourned the meeting for 30 minutes.
The policy and program had been endorsed earlier on Monday.
