KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has pledged to prevent any split within the party.

Speaking to journalists on Monday after a meeting with his faction leaders, Koirala said he is committed to preserving the party and will step down only after safeguarding it.

He urged party members not to worry about a potential split and emphasized coordination and unity.

“I am working to save the party. The party will remain intact, so don’t worry. My only concern is that the party should not split, and I will ensure it doesn’t. We will move forward through coordination and unity,” he said.

Meanwhile, party general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma have already commenced the special convention, including a closed session that began Monday.

The organizational faction, however, has shown little interest in these developments.
