KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba convened a high-level meeting attended by Dr. Shekhar Koirala and other senior party leaders, including Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, Badri Pandey, and Minendra Rijal, at his residence in Maharajgunj.

The meeting comes as the party’s special convention continues its closed session in Bhirkutimandap.

Deuba called the discussion to address the ongoing party crisis, particularly after the special convention faction proposed dissolving the central working committee elected at the 14th general convention.

Sources say Koirala, who has already consulted with leaders close to him, has been tasked with mediating between Deuba and Deputy General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma to resolve the party’s internal disputes.

According to Deuba-aligned leaders, the meeting is expected to focus on the implications of the special convention’s decisions, legal options, and preparations for upcoming election campaigns.

While the establishment faction has questioned the legality of the convention, the participation of a majority of representatives has added complexity to the situation.
