KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has imposed a fine of approximately Rs 800,000 on former King Gyanendra Shah, who is accused of being the main orchestrator of the royalist protest and vandalism that took place at Tinkune last Friday.
On Sunday, a team from the metropolitan city went to deliver the fine notice to the former king’s residence, Nirmal Niwas.
However, former King Shah refused to accept the notice.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had issued eight notices in the name of King Gyanendra Shah, totaling a fine of Rs 793,000.
When the city police team arrived to deliver the notices to Nirmal Niwas, they were sent back at the gate. As a result, the municipality is now preparing to send the fine notice via postal services.
According to Bhupdev Shah, the chief personal secretary of Mayor Balen Shah, the former king refused to accept the fine notice. “Since he refused to receive the letter, we returned without delivering it,” said Shah. “Now, we are preparing to send the letter through the postal service.”
