KATHMANDU: Kavrepalanchowk has witnessed a significant increase in voter registration following the announcement of elections, with over 5,000 new voters added to the electoral roll.

At the district election office in Dhulikhel, a surge of citizens has been visiting to register their names and have their photographs taken.

The office reported that nearly 5,000 voters completed the process by the previously set deadline of Kartik 30.

Following the election announcement, the Election Commission has extended the registration period until Mangsir 5 to accommodate the growing demand.

According to Naresh Manandhar, information officer at the district office, 264 people had their photos taken on Kartik 30 alone, while 17 individuals visited the office even on a Saturday holiday. In recent days, the office has been providing services daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and last Friday alone, 379 people registered their photographs. Over the past ten days, a total of 2,798 citizens completed the process, compared to 2,109 between Ashoj 10 and Kartik 20.

Meanwhile, the district election committee has already recommended adjustments to polling stations and centers in preparation for the upcoming elections.

As of Kartik 17, Kavrepalanchok had 313,350 registered voters, and between Kartik 17 and 30, an additional 3,500 voters were added.

During the last elections, the district, which includes two parliamentary constituencies, four provincial assembly constituencies, six municipalities, seven rural municipalities, and 135 wards, had 190 polling stations and 389 polling centers. The current population of the district stands at 375,221.

Dinesh Shivakoti, district election officer, said that the Election Commission’s procedures for voter lists, polling stations, and centers are being strictly followed.

Accordingly, the polling stations and centers for wards in Khandikhola Rural Municipality–7, Bhumlu Rural Municipality–5, Chauri-Deurali Rural Municipality–7, Temal Rural Municipality–1, Banepa Municipality–13, Dhulikhel Municipality–2 and 5, Namobuddha Municipality–2 and 7, and Panchkhal Municipality–5 and 9 have been finalized and submitted to the coordination committee for approval.
