Karan KC handed one-match ban after controversial social media post
He has also been stripped of 100 percent of his match fee for the game.
KATHMANDU: Nepal international cricketer Karan KC has been suspended for one match and fined his entire match fee by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) following a controversial social media post targeting umpires.
The decision means Karan missed Sunday’s Prime Minister Cup fixture between Nepal Police Club and Madhesh Province, where he represents the Police team.
He has also been stripped of 100 percent of his match fee for the game.
In a statement, CAN said the action was taken after determining that Karan’s comments were “not in line with the spirit of the game.” The board confirmed the sanction was based on reports from the match referee and discussions with its technical committee, in accordance with ICC Code of Conduct guidelines and player agreements.
The controversy erupted after Karan posted on Facebook questioning disciplinary standards for players in hypothetical incidents involving umpires, which was widely interpreted as threatening in tone.
The post was later deleted, and Karan issued an apology.
However, the apology has not satisfied the Nepal Cricket Umpires Association, whose president Mohammad Shafiq said an apology alone was insufficient and called for formal disciplinary action.
CAN spokesperson Chumbi Lama said the board is closely monitoring growing tensions between players and match officials, adding that the governing body acted after reviewing all relevant disciplinary frameworks under the Prime Minister Cup regulations and its player code of conduct.
Karan KC remains eligible to return after serving his one-match suspension.
