Kalimati market updates: Mixed trends in vegetable & fruit prices

KATHMANDU: The Kalimati Fruit and Vegetable Market Development Committee has published today’s wholesale price list for agricultural produce, showing slight drops in some items while others remain expensive.

According to the list, large Nepali tomatoes are being sold at Rs 75 per kg, local small tomatoes at Rs 78, and tunnel tomatoes at Rs 93 per kg. Red potatoes are priced at Rs 90 per kg and white potatoes at Rs 65 per kg. The price of dried Indian onions has decreased slightly to Rs 40 per kg.

Among other vegetables, local carrots cost Rs 130 per kg, Terai carrots Rs 110, local cabbage Rs 75, local cauliflower Rs 160, red radish Rs 60, white local radish Rs 40, and hybrid white radish Rs 50 per kg. Local beans are priced at Rs 90, hybrid beans at Rs 85, and Rajma beans at Rs 200 per kg. Green peas cost Rs 220 per kg, bitter gourd Rs 100, bottle gourd Rs 80, and pointed gourd Rs 85 per kg. Ripe pumpkin costs Rs 55, while green long pumpkin is priced at Rs 80 per kg.

In leafy greens, mustard greens are Rs 150 per kg, spinach Rs 200, garden cress Rs 260, and fenugreek leaves Rs 250 per kg. Button mushrooms are Rs 250 per kg and oyster mushrooms Rs 400 per kg. Asparagus remains among the most expensive vegetables at Rs 550 per kg.

In fruits, juicy apples are priced at Rs 230 per kg and Fuji apples at Rs 300 per kg. Bananas are Rs 130 per dozen, lemons Rs 130 per kg, pomegranates Rs 350, Nepali oranges Rs 100, and Indian oranges Rs 130 per kg. Green watermelon costs Rs 70 per kg, sweet oranges Rs 100, junar Rs 220, kiwi Rs 260, and avocado Rs 350 per kg.

Among spices, ginger is priced at Rs 80 per kg, green chili at Rs 110, bullet chili at Rs 120, and akabare chili at Rs 100 per kg. Dried chili costs Rs 400 per kg. Coriander remains one of the most expensive items at Rs 750 per kg. Chinese dried garlic costs Rs 200 per kg, while Nepali garlic is slightly cheaper at Rs 180 per kg.
