KATHMANDU: A significant step toward political unity has been taken as the two factions of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, led by Chair Upendra Yadav and Co-Chair Renu Yadav, have reached an agreement to merge.

The unification pact was formally signed today.

Earlier on Sunday, the Terai Madhesh Democratic Party and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal had also agreed to unify.

The merger comes ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives elections and is seen as a move to consolidate the achievements of the Madhesh Movement, safeguard federalism and the republic, and protect the rights of the Madhesh region and its people.

According to Pradeep Yadav, a leader of Renu Yadav’s faction, the majority of central members will join the original party led by Upendra Yadav.

Acknowledging the changing political landscape, he said the merger was necessary to honor the aspirations of the Madhesi community and respond to public expectations.
