Minister S Jaishankar offered special Pooja and also planted Rudrakshya saplings at the premises of Pashupatinath temple.

The Indian External Affairs Minister arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday to attend the 7th Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting.

He also held meetings with the top political leadership on Thursday itself.

Jaishankar is returning home today.

During the visit to Nepal on Thursday, India has agreed in principle to buy 10,000 megawatts of electricity produced in Nepal.

The Energy Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel and the Secretary of the Ministry of Power of India, Pankaj Agrawal, signed the agreement in the presence of the Energy Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet and the Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

This agreement comes as a reassurance for the power trade between the two countries, and it opens the door for investment in electricity production within the country.

The pact also aims to increase the quantity of electricity export from Nepal to India in the next ten years.

The agreement, which ensures a reliable power supply, has been signed for a duration of 25 years.

According to the Ministry of Energy spokesperson Navin Raj Singh, this pact lays the foundation for cooperation in the energy sector between Nepal and India and provides room for further collaboration, including the increase of the agreement duration or bilateral trade volume, based on the increased capacity of transmission lines.

The pact includes provisions for automatic renewal every ten years.
