Jaari 2 calls for sound test in theaters before screening
Issuing a statement on Thursday, the team requested theater operators to test the movie’s sound level before its commercial screening.
KATHMANDU: The production team of the much-awaited Nepali film ‘Jaari 2: Song of Chyabrung’, which is set for a worldwide release from Friday (Kartik 21), has urged cinema halls to conduct test runs to ensure proper sound calibration.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, the team requested theater operators to test the movie’s sound level before its commercial screening.
“We have completed the sound mixing of Jaari 2 in immersive sound format, which allows audiences to enjoy the film in Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and AuroMax sound systems,” the statement reads. The mixing of the film was done in Dolby Fader Unit 5.8.
Since sound pressure levels (SPL) vary across cinema halls, the team stressed the need for a preliminary sound check to avoid distortion.
They shared that previous experiences showed cinemas running the same film at different audio levels such as 3, 3.5, 4, or 4.5, causing inconsistent audio output.
According to Dolby standards, if a film is mixed at Fader Unit 7, it must be screened at the same unit in theaters. However, many halls reduce the volume assuming the sound is too loud, which leads to distorted sound quality. Calling this practice “incorrect,” the team said Jaari 2 has been mixed at Unit 5.8 to maintain optimal quality.
Therefore, the filmmakers have requested all cinema halls to run a test at a minimum volume level of Unit 5 and make adjustments as needed.
They added that running the film at lower levels like 3, 3.5, or 4 may cause the sound to feel too low.
Meanwhile, Jaari 2: Song of Chyabrung has received a Universal Certificate from the Film Censor Board, making it suitable for audiences of all age groups.
Officials who viewed the film during the censor process praised its storytelling, which is rooted in the culture of the Limbu community.
The film is written and directed by Upendra Subba, and produced by Rambabu Gurung, Madhu Mijar, and Jeevan Gurung.
It stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, and Bijay Baral in lead roles, along with Buddhi Tamang, Reecha Sharma, Pushkar Gurung, Prem Subba, Maotse Gurung and others in supporting roles.
Produced under the banners of Baasuri Films and Kabaddi Films, Jaari 2 is anticipated to be one of the commercially successful Nepali films of the year.
