Israel strikes Hezbollah in Beirut
The targeted sites include a branch of Al-Kard Al-Hasan, which Israel claims is used by Hezbollah to procure weapons and finance its fighters.
KATHMANDU: Israeli forces announced Thursday afternoon the start of a new wave of airstrikes in Beirut, targeting Hezbollah positions.
Prior to the attacks, residents in the Bachoura and Jakak al-Blat areas were warned to evacuate specific buildings.
The targeted sites include a branch of Al-Kard Al-Hasan, which Israel claims is used by Hezbollah to procure weapons and finance its fighters.
The warnings and subsequent strikes have caused fear among residents and displaced families who had previously fled earlier Israeli attacks to central Beirut.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, the death toll from Israeli attacks since March 2 has reached 687, with 1,774 people injured. Among the casualties, 18 paramedics have been killed and 45 others wounded.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated that the government is working to halt the ongoing conflict and ensure the safe return of displaced residents.
He expressed gratitude to local communities for sheltering affected families and to international partners providing humanitarian aid.
Hezbollah, for the first time since the November 27, 2024, ceasefire, claimed to have launched rockets toward Israel on the morning of March 2.
Israel subsequently described its strikes as part of an aggressive military campaign against the group, targeting southern and eastern Lebanon as well as Beirut’s southern suburbs, with heavy air raids and ground incursions along the border.
