KATHMANDU: Ishanath Municipality in Rautahat has declared a day of mourning leave today in memory of former Minister Mohammad Aftab Alam, who passed away on Saturday.

The municipality stated that its office, along with all subordinate offices, will remain closed to honor the late leader.

Alam, a former lawmaker representing Rautahat Constituency-2 and a senior leader of the Nepali Congress, died while undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital in Kathmandu.

He was laid to rest on Saturday itself as per Islamic funeral traditions, according to family sources.

Alam had long been a notable figure in Rautahat’s political landscape, and his demise has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders and local communities.
