Integrated farming system gains importance for climate & livelihoods in Nepal
Dr. Tiwari also stressed that livestock farming remains a key livelihood source for many Nepalese.
KATHMANDU: Dr. Ramnandan Tiwari, Director General of the Department of Animal Services, has emphasized the growing significance of integrated farming systems in Nepal.
Speaking at a workshop on the Climate Smart Dairy Farming Project held on Thursday, Dr. Tiwari noted that although integrated agriculture was once common, its practice had declined but is now regaining importance.
He highlighted the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers on soil health.
“Integrated farming systems are becoming increasingly vital. Chemical fertilizers not only degrade the soil but are also expensive. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is critical, and the practices we adopt to achieve this are crucial,” he said.
Dr. Tiwari also stressed that livestock farming remains a key livelihood source for many Nepalese.
He called for appropriate planning to ensure fair pricing for agricultural products, benefiting farmers and the overall agricultural sector.
The government and its projects are actively supporting these sustainable agricultural initiatives to address environmental challenges while promoting economic development.
