INSAS rifle looted during Gen Z protests ecovered; 22 still missing

Police say more weapons are being found abandoned in different locations of the district.

KATHMANDU: An INSAS rifle looted during the Gen-Z protests has been recovered from Birtamod Municipality-6, Jhapa.

According to District Police Office spokesperson DSP Khagendra Khadka, the weapon was found discarded this evening at Sugam Shanti Tole near a mustard field bush around 4:45 PM.

The recovered items include:

  • One INSAS rifle (Serial No. 031100872)

  • One magazine

  • 19 live rounds recovered intact

  • 2 rounds missing

The rifle was among those stolen from the Area Police Office, Anarmani, on August 24 during the Gen Z uprising.

DSP Khadka informed that although this rifle has now been recovered, a total of 22 weapons looted from the Area Police Offices of Damak and Anarmani are still missing.

During the protests in Jhapa, 103 weapons of various types were looted. Of these, 81 weapons have been recovered so far.

Police say more weapons are being found abandoned in different locations of the district.
