Indra Baniya elected NC parliamentary leader in Bagmati Province
Out of the total 37 votes cast, Baniya received 22 votes, while Lama secured 14. One vote was declared invalid.
KATHMANDU: Indra Baniya has been elected as the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party in the Bagmati Province Assembly.
In the election held on Wednesday in Hetauda, Baniya defeated his rival Bahadur Singh Lama, securing a majority of votes.
Out of the total 37 votes cast, Baniya received 22 votes, while Lama secured 14. One vote was declared invalid.
The Bagmati Province parliamentary party of the Nepali Congress consists of 37 members, and Baniya’s 22 votes secured him the leadership position with a clear majority.
Earlier, under Baniya’s leadership, a no-confidence motion had been filed against then-leader Lama, which was also passed with the support of 22 lawmakers from the party.
Following the vacancy of the position, Baniya and Lama faced off for the second time during this term. In the 2079 election, Lama had defeated Baniya to become the party leader.
Along with being the newly elected parliamentary party leader, Indra Baniya also serves as the President of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Committee.
