KATHMANDU: The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with various programs.

The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava.

On the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava presented the pre-recorded address by Indian President Draupadi Murmu delivered on the eve of the 79th Independence Day.

He also honored the widows and closest relatives of deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, handing over Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques worth Rs 6.4 million.

The embassy announced a book donation initiative for 39 educational institutions and libraries across all seven provinces and 21 districts of Nepal, aiming to improve access to educational resources for students in remote areas.

The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian community in Nepal, embassy officials, and their families.

Students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center and the Central School, Kathmandu, performed patriotic songs and cultural programs to mark the occasion.
