KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man for allegedly brutally assaulting his wife in Jahada Rural Municipality-4, Sohal Tole, Morang.

According to the Morang District Police Office, 35-year-old Amit Mandal allegedly attacked his 27-year-old wife, Savita Mandal, last Thursday night. Reports indicate that he allegedly stuffed a cloth into her mouth before beating her, leaving her with serious injuries to her nose.

Savita was taken to Koshi Hospital for treatment, but she continues to experience bleeding from her nose, according to her statement.

The victim’s family has filed a formal complaint implicating other family members in the attack. Acting on this complaint, police arrested Amit on Sunday.

DSP Harinand Chaudhary, spokesperson for Morang Police, confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is ongoing, with authorities actively searching for the other alleged perpetrators.

Savita’s sister, Madhukamari Mandal, claimed that Savita’s brother-in-law Sandeep Mandal, her husband’s younger brother Ravishankar Mandal, and the in-laws collectively attacked her. Madhukamari added that Savita had been subjected to repeated abuse in the past.

Savita is currently staying at her parental home with her two daughters. The family has demanded strict legal action against all involved, while police have intensified their search for the remaining suspects.
