KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the construction of infrastructure for Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force is a key priority of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Speaking at the House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Lekhak informed that a budget of Rs 400 million has been allocated for infrastructure development of the two security agencies in the current fiscal year.

He emphasized that both forces are operating with limited resources and therefore structural strengthening is essential.

“The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are working with minimal resources. There is a pressing need to build infrastructure for both agencies. Within the available budget, we have proposed several projects and allocated up to Rs 400 million for infrastructure development in partnership with all three tiers of government,” he said.

Lekhak highlighted the growing demand for permanent police posts, Border Outposts (BOPs), and additional administrative offices across the country.

He said the government will gradually address these demands based on priority, acknowledging the financial constraints that prevent immediate implementation of all requests.

“This is our first major step in this direction, and depending on its success, we will move forward. There have been calls to convert temporary police posts into permanent ones. These are also among the ministry’s top priorities,” he added.

Furthermore, the Home Minister stressed the need for legal reforms to systematize transfers and promotions within the security agencies. He informed the House that related bills have already been tabled in Parliament.

Lekhak also stated that the national identity card system is being expanded to become the foundation for public service delivery across the country.
