KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has submitted his resignation following the recent violent Gen Z protests.

On Monday evening, during a Cabinet meeting at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, Lekhak formally handed over his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

A Cabinet member confirmed that Lekhak announced his resignation during the meeting.

Lekhak, responsible for the nation’s security, reportedly took moral responsibility for failing to control the protests, which turned violent across the capital and other areas.

Clashes between security forces and demonstrators have so far resulted in 19 confirmed deaths and dozens of injuries.

Following the unrest, there had been growing public and political demand for Lekhak’s resignation.

Sources indicate that he had expressed his intention to resign even during a Nepali Congress meeting prior to submitting it to the Prime Minister.
