KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court today holding a hearing on a writ petition demanding investigation and criminal action against former Prime Minister and CPN coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ over statements made during the civil conflict.

The petition, filed on Falgun 23, 2079 BS, claims that Prachanda publicly admitted responsibility for the deaths of 5,000 people out of 17,000 during the conflict.

The petitioners, including advocates Gyanendra Raj Aran and Kalyan Budhathoki, argued that Prachanda’s admission amounts to a “confession of murder” and called for his immediate arrest.

They emphasized his command responsibility as the Maoist Supreme Commander and cited policies issued under his leadership, along with the Baburam Bhattarai-led government’s findings of killings and torture of unarmed civilians.

The writ stresses the urgent need for criminal accountability for grave crimes committed during the conflict and criticizes the government for not releasing verified data on conflict-related deaths.
