KATHMANDU: Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League with a commanding 4–1 victory over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Iberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres both scored twice as Arsenal responded in style after Manchester City cut the gap at the summit with a 2–1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.
Arsenal handed new Tottenham head coach Igor Tudor a heavy defeat in his first match in charge, underlining their title credentials in emphatic fashion.
Eze, who had scored a hat-trick in the previous meeting at the Emirates Stadium in November, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.
Tottenham hit back just two minutes later when Randal Kolo Muani capitalised on a mistake by Declan Rice to level the match.
The first half ended 1–1, but Arsenal completely took control after the break.
Viktor Gyökeres restored the lead in the 47th minute before Eze struck again on 61 minutes. Gyökeres sealed the emphatic win deep into stoppage time.
The result leaves Tottenham down in 16th place, just four points above the relegation zone, piling pressure on Tudor in the early days of his tenure.
Liverpool Snatch Late Winner
In another key Premier League clash, Liverpool edged past Nottingham Forest 1–0 thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time goal from Alexis Mac Allister, keeping the title race firmly alive.
